US Breastfeeding Committee Website

I was featured on the United States Breastfeeding Committee Website for being apart of a blog through the healthy children project: http://www.ourmilkyway.org/breastfeeding-at-the-ball-game/

Hi my name is Stacey. I’m 29 years old and a mother of two beautiful kids.  Unfortunately, during my second pregnancy I had complications leading to a c-section delivery at 7 months.  It was a very hard time for me, since my son was born two months earlier.  He had to stay in the NICU for about a month. I contacted Jena, and she coached me in the best ways to develop and protect my milk supply, since he could not breastfeed directly. She taught me how to hand express colostrum into small containers and power pump- which I pumped every two to three hours without fail and made sure he was given breast milk instead of that man made formula. She instructed me in how to use a hand pump and a hospital pump. She showed me how to use my hands to remove milk. I really noticed the difference and the importance of breast milk during the time my son was in the NICU. From a birth weight of three pounds… in less then a month he weighed 5 pounds and was strong enough to come home! I continued to breast feed my son for about another 6 months and have since returned to work. My two children are very healthy kids! They barely get sick and when they do they fight it off without having serious complications.  I’m a big advocate for breast feeding.  & I am so grateful to Jena’s help during a time when I was so stressed and scared.

I started talking to Jena a few months before my baby was born. I knew I wanted to breastfeed my baby, but I was nervous about what to do or how to do it. Jena was extremely helpful. I would call or text her anytime a day. My baby was in the NICU for 2 weeks after he was born, he wasn’t eating well enough for him to leave. I was extremely determined to give my son just breast milk, and with Jena’s help and tips I was able to do that. I couldn’t have done this without her help and support. Thank you so much Jena! We are so glad you were there for us.
